|Dover
Ever wanted to know how an oyster grows? Or how an oyster farm is run? Or why this keystone species is important to the ecosystem of the bay? Join Laura, owner of Fox Point Oysters, for a guided, interactive discussion about oysters and oyster farming, while standing knee-deep in the beautiful bay.
Time & Location
Sep 21, 2021, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Dover, US-4, Dover, NH 03820, USA
About the event
During the discussion, see how aquaculture gear is used to grow productive oyster yields, and learn how these friendly bivalves help protect our waters. A shucking demonstration will give participants the chance to learn from a pro to be able to show off to their friends and family.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear clothing you don’t mind getting wet or muddy along with water shoes, boots, or waders. If the tide is up we may be ankle-deep in the bay or standing on soft mud. Flip flops and sandals are not safe. Make sure to have a towel and dry footwear to change into after the demonstration.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: The location is on a muddy shoreline with no restroom available. This demonstration will require you to walk down stairs to access the shoreline. If you are not comfortable balancing while walking through muddy, ocean water, you may want to sit this one out.
WHEN: Tuesday, September 21st. Two sessions: 10AM or 12PM, up to 12 people in each time slot
LOCATION: Little Bay in New Hampshire on the Dover/Durham line. Parking at Scammel Bridge parking lot, eastbound side.
PRICE: Price: $40 per person. You will also get a 10% discount on Fox Point Oyster merchandise!
This fundraising event will benefit Seacoast Eat Local, the event organizer, and Fox Point Oysters, the event host
